I bought this book for my granddaughter, but I got a copy for myself first, so I could read it and make sure it was appropriate for her. But I LOVED it myself, lol! This book is so fun! It's perfect for tweens thru young adults, but it's engaging enough for mature adults. The plot is great, and it features Fanny, a smart, tough, resilient girl who secretly becomes a pirate. The writing is excellent, I was totally caught up in the adventure. I will be giving it also to my grandson, who is next on my list. There is enough danger, action and pirate intrigue...and then there's Fanny, the heroine against all odds. I am so grateful to have discovered this book -- it's not easy to find good books for this age range. Highly recommended.

Fanny Campell’s story is so engaging and exciting that you’re forced away from your regular screen time routine. I found myself wondering what Fanny was up to and pouring over the pages into the night. Not only is she a full, true-to-life character—all of the other characters really show distinct personality, too. Even the animals in the story really come to life! I’d give two thumbs up if I could…but a pirate chopped one off! So 5 stars it is!

Brooks’ compelling storytelling, descriptive settings, historical detailing all woven within a true adventurous love story, had me on the edge of my seat impatient for the next chapter.
